Questions
How much is the rent tax credit?
20% of the rent you pay in the year, up to €1,000 for a single person and €2,000 for a couple in 2026.
What did Budget 2027 change?
From January 2027 the limit rises to €1,150 for a single person and €2,300 for a couple. The Finance Bill must still pass for this to become law.
How much rent do I need to pay to get the full credit?
€5,000 a year for the 2026 single limit, or €5,750 for the 2027 single limit. Couples need twice that.
Who can claim?
Renters paying for a home to live in, with rules about the type of tenancy and who you rent from. Claim through Revenue's myAccount and check the conditions there, because this page only works out the amount.
